Student detained over attack on Mahfuj released

A student named Mohammad Hossain, who reportedly threw a bottle at Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam while he was addressing JnU protesters at Kakrail on the night of 14 May, has been released after an initial interrogation, according to a post made on the profile of Mahfuj Alam today (16 May). "The information adviser spoke with him and his family at the DB office. He invited Hossain to visit his home once the protest ends. Earlier in the afternoon, he had requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to hand Hossain over to his guardians after the preliminary questioning," the post also reads.Hossain was earlier taken into custody by the Detective Branch of DMP for questioning, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Media Wing said in a press statement.JnU protesters called for his release within two hours, warning that otherwise, they would besiege the DB office.
