Gold bars worth around Tk 4.5cr seized from plane at Dhaka airport

Customs intelligence officials recovered gold bars weighing over 4.4 kilogrammes from a plane at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka early Wednesday.
The officials recovered the gold bars around 5:30am from a flight of Salam Air.
The gold bars were found abandoned, wrapped in sticky tape in two packets.
Pradeep Kumar Sarker, assistant commissioner of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department (CIID), said during a search inside the plane, the team found two heavy things, wrapped in black tape. Later, they cut the tape and recovered 38 gold bars, weighing over 4.4 kilogrammes.
The value of the gold is around Tk 4.5 crore.
CIID officials said smugglers sometimes left gold in this manner to avoid arrest.
