Garbage dumps on road side : Public life troubled in Fatikchhari

The entrance to the Road and Highways Department Development (RHD ) office has become a mess due to the dumping of garbage and waste by the Fatikchhari Municipality on the Chittagong-Khagrachari regional highway. The entire area has become unsanitary due to the foul smell. People are facing extreme hardship due to the pungent smell of all this.
It can be seen on the ground that this garbage is being dumped in the Bibirhat bus stand area next to the Chittagong-Khagrachari regional highway that runs through the upazila. The stench of this garbage dumped in front of the SAOJ office is making the commuters on the road feel nauseous.
The stench is unbearable as soon as you pass by the garbage dump. Thousands of people, including Muslims and businessmen, who travel to the local mosque along the road have been suffering from this for a long time. This garbage has become toxic waste after getting wet in the rain and drying in the sun.
Rafiqul Islam, member secretary of the Upazila Environmental Journalists' Association, said, "Disposal of waste in open spaces is increasing health risks among people. Along with pollution, diseases are spreading due to increasing mosquito infestation. Moreover, biodiversity is being threatened by this."
Roads and Townships (RHD ) Sub-Divisional Engineer Muhammad Farhan said, "We have told the municipal authorities many times, but they have not taken any action. Initiatives will be taken to remove it soon."
Fatikchhari UNO Mozammel Haque Chowdhury said, "The matter has come to our attention. We will go to the spot and quickly remove this garbage and a new place for the garbage dump will be determined."
