A third-grade student was raped in her own home. The girl now refuses to leave the house, consumed by fear. She no longer plays with other children and has stopped attending the madrasa. Her father expressed deep sorrow while sharing these details.
He stated that after filing a case against Saiful Islam for the rape, he has found himself in distress. Even after 14 days, the accused remains unarrested. Instead, the plaintiff’s family is living in fear due to threats from the accused’s family. The incident took place in a village in Ghatail Upazila.
According to the case complaint, on the afternoon of June 3, Saiful, a local youth, raped the 11-year-old girl when she was alone at home. The girl’s grandmother, upon returning home, knocked on the door and saw Saiful, who then fled the scene.
The child’s father shared that his wife left for another place, leaving their daughter behind. The girl was being raised by her grandmother. She studied in the third grade at a local madrasa. On the day of the incident, the father was out driving an autorickshaw, and the grandmother was also not at home. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Saiful, a local, violated his daughter. After the incident, a case was filed at the police station. However, even after 14 days, the accused has not been arrested. While the police showed initial enthusiasm in apprehending the accused for the first two or three days, that effort is no longer visible.
The plaintiff stated that the accused’s father is an expatriate and has significant wealth. After filing the case, the accused’s uncles, Joynal Abedin, Abdul Kuddus, and Mofiz Uddin, have been constantly threatening him. When they meet on the road, the accused’s uncles say, “You filed a case, but the police couldn’t catch him. This isn’t the end; we’ll come for you. We support (BNP). We’ll buy the judge with money and get our boy out on bail.”
The plaintiff alleged that he has been threatened with having his hands and legs broken if he does not quickly settle the matter. However, Abdul Kuddus, one of the accused’s uncles, denied the allegations of issuing threats.
The investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Abdul Matin from the Ghatail Sagardighi Police Investigation Center, has been informed about the threats from the accused’s family multiple times over the phone, according to the plaintiff.
The investigating officer, Abdul Matin, confirmed he is aware of the threats made to the plaintiff. He stated that the plaintiff has been advised to file a general diary at the police station regarding the threats. After the rape incident, locals attempted to resolve the matter through a settlement. When that failed, and a case was filed, multiple operations were conducted to apprehend the accused. These operations are ongoing.
The OC of Ghatail Police Station, Mir Mosharraf, said, after failing to resolve the matter locally, the child’s father came to the police station three days after the incident to file a case.
After the case was filed, the accused fled from his home. Several operations have been conducted in various locations to apprehend the accused, and these operations are ongoing.
