
Freshers’ reception, cultural programme held at DU Applied Mathematics Department

The freshers’ reception for first-year undergraduate students of the Applied Mathematics Department at Dhaka University was held on Wednesday, at the Rezaur Rahman Auditorium in the AF Mujibur Rahman Mathematics Building.
The event was graced by the presence of Dhaka University’s Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed, as the chief guest.
Presided over by the Chairman of the Applied Mathematics Department, Prof Dr. Muhammad Ferdous, the programme featured speeches from special guests, including the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, and the President of the Dhaka University Mathematics Alumni Association, Dr. Mohammad Tajul Islam.
In his address, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed emphasized the significance of mathematics education, stating, “Those who excel in mathematics can swiftly resolve any problem through logical reasoning.” He expressed optimism that, under the guidance of esteemed faculty and within the university’s conducive environment, students would hone their mathematical skills and establish themselves as successful individuals. He also urged students to respect the university’s rules and regulations while encouraging them to excel in sports and co-curricular activities alongside their studies.
During the event, three students were honored for achieving the highest GPAs in their respective years of the undergraduate program. The awardees were Fahia Haque Afnan (1st year), Mehebuba Chowdhury (2nd year), and Malik Sabiha Tasmin (3rd year).
The second segment of the program featured a captivating cultural performance presented by the department’s students, adding a vibrant touch to the occasion.
