Four inter-district robbers arrested in Sreenagar with 3.5 tons of Palm Oil

Police arrested four members of an inter-district robbery gang in Sreenagar, Munshiganj.
The arrested robbers are Aam (32), son of Moslem from Sonargaon upazila, Narayanganj, Alamgir Hossain (38), son of Ayub Ali from Jugir Hawla area, Rangabali upazila, Patuakhali, Helaluzzaman, son of Jamal Mia from Pashchimkhand area, Muksudpur upazila, Golapganj, Zobayer Ahmed Jibon (27), son of deceased Judge Mia from Hasnabad area, South Keraniganj
Police recovered from their possession a truck with 57 oil barrels, a double cabin vehicle, and a pickup van. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Sreenagar Circle, Anisur Rahman, disclosed this information during a press briefing held at the Srinagar Police Station at around 1:30 PM on Tuesday.
According to ASP Anisur Rahman, on April 29, a truck carrying 75 plastic drums of palm oil left from Kanchpur Multi International Oil Mill in Narayanganj, heading toward Jhenaidah. Around 9 PM, when the truck reached the Bezgaon passenger shed area of Srinagar upazila on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway, six robbers in a black double cabin pickup intercepted the truck, identifying themselves as DB (Detective Branch) police officers. Claiming the truck carried drugs, they took the driver and helper into their vehicle. The robbers then drove the truck, loaded with oil, to Hasnabad in Dhaka and unloaded the goods.
The mastermind behind the heist was identified as Md. Helaluzzaman, a businessman from Mir Hajirbagh, Dhaka. He had purchased the stolen oil. Following an investigation, police and DB (Detective Branch) officers conducted a raid at Messrs. Jamal Enterprise & Variety Store in Mir Hajirbagh and recovered 35 full oil drums and 22 empty drums. The seized oil weighed 3,348 kg, with an estimated market value of approximately BDT 522,000 (about $4,800 USD).
Present at the press briefing were: Officer-in-Charge of Srinagar Police Station Shakil Ahmed, Inspector (Investigation) Aminul Islam, DB Sub-Inspectors Abul Kalam Azad and Hamim Mohammad Tarek, among others.
