Former MP of Bagerhat-2 (Kachua and Sadar) constituency and former president of district BNP M.A.H. Selim was given a civic reception. The reception was organized on Tuesday afternoon under the banner of Bagerhat residents at Khanjahan Ali Mazar ground in the city.

M.A.H. Selim was the chief guest at the event, presided over by Muhtamim Maulana Abdul Mabud of Hakimpur Qawmi Madrasa, and under the overall supervision of former Jubo Dal leader Fakir Tariqul Islam.

Several thousand ordinary people from different unions of Bagerhat Sadar Upazila and Kachua Upazila participated in the reception. They requested M.A.H. Selim to be re-elected as a Member of Parliament from Bagerhat-2 constituency.

In his speech as the chief guest, MAH Selim said, "If I become a member of parliament, I will establish a medical college at the request of the people of Bagerhat, for which land has been purchased next to the district stadium. I will convert Majeda Begum Agricultural Technology College in Goalmath area of Kachua into a university. Besides, I have various other plans for the development of the people of Bagerhat, which will be implemented if I become a member of parliament."

The head of Silver Line Group, freedom fighter MAH Selim, a resident of Mukshite village in Bagerhat Sadar upazila, entered Bagerhat politics in the late 90s and was elected president of the district BNP. In the 2001 elections, he defeated influential leader Sheikh Helal Uddin, cousin of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, and was elected as a member of parliament from Bagerhat-2 constituency. While he was a member of parliament, he established various institutions including Muniganj Bridge, City Defense Dam, Majeda Begum Agricultural Technology College, and Belayet Hossain Degree College.

After the BNP left power, he resigned from the post of district BNP president during the caretaker government. Since then, he has not been seen in public politics, and he has not come to Bagerhat much due to political pressure.
