2nd day of court boycott in Ctg protesting lawyer Saiful Islam killing passes peacefully

Md. Tanzim Hossain, Chattogram City

All court activities in Chattogram will remain suspended for the second consecutive day on Thursday in protest of the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif during a clash over the demand for the release of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari.

In a special notice issued on Wednesday, Chattogram District Lawyers’ Association announced this decision.

According to the notice, extremist members of the ISKCON organization brutally murdered Advocate Saiful Islam Alif on November 26 while he was performing his professional duties.

The association’s emergency meeting adopted six resolutions in response to the incident. These include lowering the association’s flag to half-mast, wearing black badges, boycotting all court proceedings, holding a prayer session at the Court Hill Jame Mosque after Zuhr prayers on Thursday, organizing a mourning procession in front of the Lawyers’ Doel Building on December 1 at 2:00 PM, and suspending the annual indoor games event.

The first day of the court boycott was observed on Wednesday, led by the association’s President Mohammad Nazim Uddin Chowdhury and General Secretary Ashraf Hossain Chowdhury Razzak.

The legal community has condemned the murder as a severe attack on professional security and demanded swift justice for the perpetrators.
