Ctg bar enforces two-day strike protesting Saiful’s killing

Two-day strike enforced by Chattogram District Bar Association in protest against the killing of its member Saiful Islam Alif began today.
Alif was killed in clashes between the members of law enforcement agencies and followers of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, the top leader of Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote.
The court activities remained suspended today and the lawyers gathered on the court premises demanding the immediate arrest of the perpetrators, court source said.
Earlier, thousands of people joined the namaz-e-janaza of Saiful Islam on the court premises at 10 am and at Jamiatul Falah National Mosque ground at 11:30 am.
After the namaz-e-janaza at court premises lawyers staged a protest rally where they voiced their outrage and sought justice for their slain colleague.
Later a statement signed by president of the bar advocate Mohammad Nazmi Uddni Chowdhury and general secretary Ashraf Hossain Chowdhury Razzak announced the two-day programme.
The programme include- strike on Thursday, keeping the association flag half-mast, wearing black badges, organizing milad Mahfil at the Juma Masjid after Zohar on Thursday.
In addition, a memorial meeting will be held in front of the bar association building at 2 pm on December 1. Annual indoor games of the association slated for November 30 has been postponed.
The clash between police and supporters of former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das ensued after the court rejected the bail petition of Chinmoy who was arrested by police on Monday in a sedition case.
Thousands of Chinmoy’s followers gathered on the court premises and obstructed the prison van carrying him, demanding his immediate release.
