
Former MP Biplob of Munshiganj-3 seat arrested in Dhaka

Faisal Biplob, former Member of Parliament for Munshiganj-3 constituency, has been arrested by DB police from a house in Manipuripara on Sunday.
DB Joint Commissioner Nasrulislam confirmed the matter. He is an accused in multiple cases filed in Munshiganj related to the anti-discrimination student movement. It is known that Faisal Biplob resigned from his position as mayor to participate in the 12th national parliamentary election. He is the eldest son of Mohammad Mohiuddin, president of the Munshiganj District Awami League.
In the 12th national parliamentary election, Faisal, the eldest son of District Awami League president Mohammad Mohiuddin, contested as an independent candidate against Awami League candidate Mrinal Kanti Das and won the election. Prior to that, he served two terms as the mayor of Munshiganj Municipality. Faisal resigned from the mayoral post to participate in the 12th parliamentary election. He was a member of the Munshiganj District Awami League executive committee. After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024, he went into hiding. On August 4, during the anti-discrimination student movement in Munshiganj, Awami League and its affiliated organizations' activists attacked, resulting in the deaths of three people and injuries to over a hundred, including those with bullet wounds, due to firing by Awami League activists.
Besides, a murder case was filed against Faisal and 500 others in connection with the death of Riyajul Farazi during the anti-discrimination student movement in Munshiganj city. The plaintiff in the case is the deceased's wife, Ruma Begum.
