Former Grameenphone employees demand payment of outstanding dues

A joint press conference was held in Rajshahi demanding the settlement of long-standing dues and business rights of former employees, distributors and retailers of Grameenphone.
The press conference was organized at the ‘Master Chef’ restaurant at Olkar Mor in the city under the banner of the “Grameenphone 5% Delayed Dues Recovery Unity Council” and a joint platform representing the concerned stakeholders.
At the press conference, several key demands were raised, highlighting various forms of discrimination and crises in the telecommunications sector.
The speakers demanded the immediate payment of the 5% delayed dues owed to former employees, which they said have remained unpaid since 2010—amounting to 16 years. They said the movement, which began on December 2, 2024, has been prolonged, pushing former employees into severe financial and family hardship. They also claimed that six former employees have already died during the course of the movement.
They strongly demanded an end to unrealistic sales targets imposed on field-level workers, an end to the reduction of commissions and profit margins, and a halt to unilateral policy changes. They also called for resolving biometric and SIM-related complications and removing various limitations of digital recharge apps.
The speakers further called for greater transparency in the terms and conditions of offers in order to protect the interests of general customers, an immediate end to unwanted and automatic charges for value-added services (VAS), a reassessment of call rates, and improvements in network quality.
Central Coordinator Mobashwer Ahsan, who came from Dhaka, said, “We do not want any conflict. We want a sustainable solution to this problem through dialogue, mutual respect and a fair process.”
Retailer representative Md. Amzad Hossain, distributor representative Saiful Islam Sujon, and members of the central team Morad Hossain, Ataus Salam, Ikramuzzaman Khan, Shami Uddin, Asif Hossain, Sarafat Ali Sarker, Samiul Haque, Mahibul Hasan, Asim Kumar, Shahriar Matin, Sultan Mahmud and Mashiur Rahman, along with many others concerned were present.
