Forest Ministry's task force holds 2nd meet to implement 250- m plantation drive

The auxiliary task force of the special cell formed to implement the government's electoral pledge of planting 250 million trees over the next five years held its second meeting today.

The meeting was held at the conference room of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, with State Minister Sheikh Faridul Islam, MP, in the chair on Thursday.

Key agendas were discussed and crucial decisions were taken to ensure the successful execution of the Prime Minister’s landmark initiative aimed at environmental conservation and tackling climate change challenges.

During the meeting, focal point officials from various ministries presented updated progress reports on the ongoing tree plantation drive. The committee announced that a dedicated 'Tree Monitoring App' will be launched very soon to ensure accurate tracking and data-driven monitoring of the planted saplings.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Md. Saimum Parvez, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Environment, Forest and Climate Change (Secretary rank) and Technical Expert; Professor Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka Central University; and Technical Expert Jamail Bashir JB.

Additional Secretary (Admin) Shamima Begum, Joint Secretary Shahanara Yasmin Lily, along with senior officials of the ministry and focal point officers from various other ministries, were also present at the session.
