
Five killed in Narail in two weeks in clashes, disputes

Five people have been killed in separate incidents across Narail’s Sadar, Lohagara, and Kalia upazilas over the past two weeks, police and locals said.
Three of the killings stemmed from disputes over local dominance, one was linked to an argument over potato prices, and another involved a fatal stabbing. Below are the details of each incident.
Union leader beaten to death over potato price dispute in Lohagara
A heated argument over potato prices turned deadly in Lohagara upazila, claiming the life of Abdullah Al-Mamun, 50, general secretary of the Narail District Bus-Minibus and Microbus Workers’ Union.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at Lakshmipasha Chourasta market. Mamun, a resident of Mahishapara village in Mallikpur union, visited vegetable vendor Idris Sheikh’s shop to buy supplies.
Locals rushed Mamun to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead. Police arrested Sheikh, 60, from Rampur soon after.
“We’ve recovered the body and sent it for autopsy at Narail Sadar Hospital,” said Md. Ashikur Rahman, OC of Lohagara thana. A case has been filed against Sheikh.
Taleb Sheikh, 65, was killed in a violent clash between two groups in Jamrildanga village, Perli union, Kalia upazila, on Sunday evening, leaving at least 10 others injured.
The clash, rooted in a long-standing rivalry over dominance between the Lasker and Sheikh families, erupted over a trivial matter at Switchgate Bazar. Armed with local weapons, the rival group attacked Taleb Sheikh, a resident of the village, inflicting fatal injuries.
He was taken to Narail Sadar Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. The skirmish left the village tense, prompting police to deploy additional forces.
“The situation is under control, and a case has been filed,” said Md. Rashidul Islam, OC of Kalia thana. The body was handed over to the family after autopsy, and arrests have been made.
A retired army member, Akbar Sheikh, 65, was killed during a clash between two groups in Pashchimpara village, Lahuria union, Lohagara upazila, on Eid day, Monday afternoon. At least 12 others were injured.
The violence stemmed from a prolonged dispute over dominance between the Monirul Jamaddar and Milton Jamaddar groups. A trivial altercation the previous day escalated into a full-scale clash, during which Akbar, son of Mekret Sheikh, was hacked and beaten by rivals.Locals rushed him to Mohammadpur Hospital in Magura, but he succumbed to his injuries en route. Police have since deployed additional forces to maintain order.
Farid Molla, 57, was killed, and at least 30 others were injured in a clash over dominance in Kanchanpur village, Kalia upazila, on Friday evening.The violence involved two rival groups led by Milan Molla and Aftab Molla, who have a history of conflict. Tensions flared after Aftab’s group allegedly attacked Sanowar, a member of Milan’s group, on Thursday. The next day, Milan’s supporters retaliated, attacking Aftab’s home near Kanchanpur Government Primary School. Both sides, armed with local weapons, clashed, leaving Farid critically injured. He died later at Khulna Medical College Hospital.Police and army personnel were deployed to restore calm.
Mosharraf Hossain Musa, 45, was fatally stabbed by unidentified assailants at the new bus terminal in Narail Sadar upazila on Saturday morning.
Musa, a resident of Daljitpur village, was found critically injured and was rushed to Narail Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.Police visited the scene and sent the body for autopsy.
