The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) to tackle climate change impacts, build institutional capacity, and mobilize international climate finance in the fisheries and livestock sectors.

The MoU was signed in the conference room of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock in Dhaka on Sunday. Joint Secretary of the International Organizations and Cooperation Branch of the ministry Baby Rani Karmakar and Research and Policy Adviser of ICCCAD Dr. Fazle Rabbi Sadeque Ahmed signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions.

Presiding over the signing ceremony, Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Md. Delwar Hossain emphasized that climate change poses a critical challenge to national livestock and fisheries. He urged officials from the ministry and its subordinate departments to actively leverage training and technical support under the MoU rather than treating the agreement as a mere formality, noting that the partnership will unlock new international funding streams including the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

Under the terms of the agreement, ICCCAD will provide technical support to integrate climate resilience into ministerial policies and enhance institutional capacity across research bodies and agencies. 

Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC) Chairman Md. Mir Hossain, Additional Secretary Nilufa Akhtar, Director General of the Department of Fisheries Dr. Md. Khaled Kanak, Director General of the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI) Dr. Md. Latiful Islam, Chief of the Planning and Evaluation Cell of the Department of Livestock Services Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman, and ICCCAD Managing Director Saqib Huq were present at the event.
