Father sentenced to death for raping daughter, fined Tk 2 lakh in Alamdanga

A court has sentenced 46-year-old Altap Hossain to death for raping his own teenage daughter (15) at Alamdanga in Chuadanga .
He has also been fined 2 lakh taka. This verdict was announced on Wednesday afternoon, by the judge of the Chuadanga Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, District and Sessions Judge Syed Habibul Islam.
The convicted Altap is a resident of Datinakhali village in the Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira district. He has been living in Chitla Hudapara village of Alamdanga upazila in Chuadanga since his marriage in 2008.
MM Shahjahan Mukul, the public prosecutor (Special PP) of the Chuadanga Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, said that the father, Altap Hossain, has been sentenced to the maximum punishment of death and fined 2 lakh taka in the case of the minor's rape. The fine has been considered as the first liability during his (the convicted person's) lifetime or after his death. The honourable court has mentioned this in the verdict. Overall, we have been able to impose the maximum punishment within just 45 days from the start of the witness testimony. We hope that such heinous crimes will not occur in society again.
On March 7, 2024, the victim's mother filed a case at Alamdanga police station under section 9(1) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000 (amended 2020). From the brief description of the case, it is known that on February 16, 2024, she was married off in a neighbouring union. A few days after the marriage, while staying at her husband's house, she felt stomach pain and nausea, leading to the revelation of a 2-3 month pregnancy through a pregnancy test. The victim stated that on December 5, 2023, when her mother went to her sister's house, her father forcibly raped her against her will after threatening her when he found her alone in the house that night. He subsequently raped her 7-8 times over 2-3 months while threatening to kill her.
After the investigation, Inspector (Investigation) Mo Babar Ali of Alamdanga police station submitted a charge sheet against the accused father in court on December 11 of last year.
