Saifur Rahman, Kurigram
Farmers in Kurigram have expressed anger over not receiving fertilizer on time and alleged that a dealer was selling fertilizer at prices higher than the government-fixed rates. The situation escalated when frustrated farmers allegedly vandalized the dealer’s fertilizer warehouse. Later, police and local administration officials arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.
On Sunday, local farmers faced difficulties after coming to Kachakata Bazar in Nageshwari Upazila to purchase fertilizer. The farmers alleged that they had been visiting the dealer repeatedly for days but failed to obtain fertilizer when they needed it most.
The farmers also alleged that fertilizer was being sold at prices higher than the fixed rates and that the dealer was using various excuses and delaying tactics when distributing fertilizer.
Tension reportedly escalated following an argument between the farmers and the dealer over the issue.
At one point, angry farmers allegedly began breaking the fencing around the dealer’s fertilizer warehouse, creating tension in the area.
Upon receiving the information, police and local administration officials rushed to the spot, calmed the farmers and brought the situation under control.
