Eye disease Outbreak in Sylhet, eye drop crisis

Sylhet Bureau

An outbreak of eye disease has occurred in Sylhet. Eye drops are not available on demand in the market. It has been alleged that a class of traders are charging double the fixed price by creating an artificial crisis. On Monday, a visit to various pharmacies in the city did not find any drops of the eye disease.

It has been reported that for the last couple of weeks, eye disease has been occurring at a large rate in the city and nearby upazilas. Men are more likely to be affected by this disease than women. Again, the prevalence of this disease can be observed in children.

Talking to some patients, it is known that earlier, the price of each drop was 30 to 40 rupees depending on the company. Now that drop has to be bought for 100 to 150 rupees. Doctors say that puffy eyes are usually caused by viruses and bacteria. The real name of this disease is conjunctivitis. This viral disease is mainly contagious. People with this disease usually get better in five to seven days without treatment. Doctors recommend the use of esquimycetin group drops in this. And this is why all the eye drops disappeared from the market.

A person named Babul Ahmad of the city said that his daughter's eyes were raised first. After this, the eyes of four of their family rose. Two days ago, his eyes also opened. Pain in the eyes and watery eyes sometimes. But even after two days, you can't find the drop in the market.

Another patient, Ranjan Das of Kumarpara of the city, said that according to the doctor's advice, I searched 21 pharmacies in the city to buy an eye drop of Escumycitin, but even if I got one drop, I had to buy it at double the price.

A man named Abu Bakar said, "My eldest daughter's eyes are raised." I consulted a doctor and searched since that afternoon when I found eye drops in a shop around 9:30 pm. No more pharmacy eye drops.

In this regard Shikdar Kamrul Islam, supervisor of the office of drug supervisor, Sylhet, said, "Suddenly the outbreak of conjunctivitis (eye disease) has caused a shortage of drops in the drug market.

The main reason for this is that no company keeps excess stock of eye drops. And there was not much demand for eye drops before. But suddenly there was a shortage of medicine because so many patients were infected. Gradually the drop crisis is normalizing.
