Workshop on Cardiac Rehabilitation Project held at BUHS

Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS) is going to start research work to improve the quality of life through rehabilitation of heart patients in the country.

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR-UK), in collaboration with the University of Glasgow, UK, is providing a financial grant to the university for this five-year research project. Professor Rod Taylor of the University of Glasgow will be the head of the project and the head of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD) Department of BUHS and associate professor Dr. Mithila Farooq.

A strategic workshop on this issue was held in the university on April 28 on the initiative of the NCD department of BUHS. National Professor AK Azad Khan, Chairman of Bangladesh Diabetic Association and President of BUHS Board of Trustees attended the event as the chief guest. Among others, BUHS Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Faridul Alam, Dean of Public Health Faculty. Anwar Hossain, former cardiologist of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and UGC professor Dr. Sajal Banerjee was present. Heads of cardiology departments of BSMMU, Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital and Research Institute and National Heart Foundation and Research Institute and teachers and researchers of BUHS attended the workshop.

Project lead researcher Professor Rod Taylor and heads of partner organizations were also present at the event. Various action plans were adopted in the workshop organized by Acros-BD on research in cardiac rehabilitation.
