Ex-IGPs Shahidul, Benazir sued over crossfire death

A case has been filed with a Chapainawabganj court against five people, including former inspectors general of police (IGPs) AKM Shahidul Hoque and Benazir Ahmed, over the killing of a BNP activist in ‘crossfire’.
Julekha Begum, the wife of deceased Abul Hossain, filed the case with the Gomostapur Cognisance Court on Wednesday.
The other accused are former Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Chapainawabganj camp officer Mozammel Haque, and two RAB informants Monirul Islam Tulu and Md Morsalin.
Plaintiff’s lawyer Nurul Islam told newsmen that Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Abu Taleb fixed 18 September for passing an order.
According to the case statement, RAB and police personnel picked up Abul Hossain from the Rohanpur bus stand in Gomostapur upazila on 5 September 2018 while he was returning home from court.
The following day, the bullet-riddled body of the BNP activist was found at Gomostapur Upazila Health Complex.
