ERDFB for continuation of political stability

Staff Correspondent

Education, Research, and Development Forum of Bangladesh (ERDFB), a research-based platform for university teachers, has urged the people to support political stability in the country.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given shape to the democracy in Bangladesh through courageous leadership over the years. The BNP-Jamaat coalition government tried to destabilise the political environment. Political stability is important for a country’s democracy and economic development,” ERDFB President Prof. Sazzad Hossain told a seminar on Friday.

ERDFB organised the seminar on ‘development and democracy’ at Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka to review the political stability and economic developments achieved over the last 15 years.

“From improving the quality of life to digitisation, everything has become possible through the implementation of the development-oriented plans of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government,” added Dr. Hossain, also a full-time member of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

UGC full-time member Prof. Biswajit Chanda was the chief guest, while Prof. Anwarul Kabir of Chittagong University was the chief discussant at the seminar. Prof. Sazzad Hossain chaired the session.

Rangamati University of Science and Technology Vice-Chancellor Prof Selina Akhtar, Bangamata Sheikh Fojilatunnesa Mujib Science & Technology University Vice-Chancellor Prof Kamrul Alam Khan, Jatiya Press Club President Farida Yasmin, and Sher-e-Bangla Agricutural University former vice-chancellor Prof Kamal Uddin Ahmed were also present as guests at the seminar.

In his speech, Dr. Biswaji Chanda said that the development of Bangladesh and Bangabandhu complements each other.

“Within just 3 years after our independence, Bangladesh surpassed Pakistan in terms of GDP due to Bangabandhu's single-minded efforts. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is leading Bangladesh towards development and prosperity on the path shown by Bangabandhu,” he said.

In his speech, Prof. Sajjad Hossain mentioned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as an indomitable leader who shaped the development and prosperity of Bangladesh after being elected in the democratic process.

“The prime minister has been supporting democratic Bangladesh and cannot be stopped by incendiary terror in the name of democracy. This trend of development and democracy will continue by winning the upcoming 12th National Parliament Election with the votes of 70 percent of the people of Bangladesh,” he said.

Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University former vice chancellor Prof Kamal Uddin Ahmed made an address of welcome, while Barishal University Vice Chancellor (routine duties) Prof Badruzzaman Bhuiyan conducted the discussion.
