Eight-member Judiciary Reform Commission formed

The interim government has formed an eight-member commission to suggest necessary reforms in making the judiciary independent, impartial, and effective.
Former justice of the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division Shah Abu Naeem Mominur Rahman will lead the Judiciary Reform Commission, read a gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Thursday.
Other members include retired High Court judges Justice Emdadul Haque and Justice Farid Ahmed Shibli, former district and sessions judge and former registrar general of Supreme Court Syed Aminul Islam, former district and sessions judge Masdar Hossain, Supreme Court’s senior lawyer Tanim Hussain Shawon, Dhaka University’s Department of Law Associate Prof Quazi Mahfujul Hoque Supan, and a representative from students.
The commission will start its work on 3 October and submit a report, prepared after consultation with all stakeholders, within the next 90 days to the chief adviser, read the notification.
