DUJ expresses concern over murder case against 24 journalists after 8 months
Staff Correspondent
The Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) has expressed concern, condemnation, and protest over the filing of a murder case against 24 journalists after eight months of the incident.
In a statement on Monday, the organization's President Sajjad Alam Khan Tapu and General Secretary Akhtar Hossain said that filing sweeping cases against journalists without specific allegations is a threat to freedom of expression. They added that if such continuous lawsuits are filed against professional journalists, the culture of fear will never be removed from this profession. The leaders said that although assurances were given from high levels of the government that no murder case would be filed against journalists without investigation, that assurance is not being reflected in reality. By implicating journalists in serious criminal cases like murder, a culture of fear is being imposed on the media, which goes against the practice of a free press. In this situation, the leaders demanded the immediate withdrawal of the cases filed against the journalists. It should be noted that on April 27, 2025, a murder case was filed at the Mirpur Police Station in the capital, which includes 24 professional journalists.
