DU VC Dr Obaidul Islam stresses collaboration between universities to meet social needs

Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam has emphasized on strengthening cooperation between various public and private universities of the country and working together to meet social needs.
He was speaking as the keynote speaker at the 'Roundtable Conference on Strengthening Higher Education and Cooperation in Bangladesh' held at BRAC University on Tuesday. BRAC University and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) jointly organized the event.
Professor Colin Riordan, Secretary General of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Professor Syed Farhat Anwar, Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University, representatives of ACU, Vice-Chancellors of various universities, and heads of various higher education institutions were present at the event.
Citing various obstacles in the higher education sector in Bangladesh, Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam said, “We need to work together to address these obstacles.” He said, “One of the most transformative developments shaping higher education today is the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI). AI creates unprecedented opportunities. Our graduates must not only learn to use AI effectively, but also learn to question, evaluate, and manage it responsibly.”
The Vice Chancellor stressed the importance of strengthening ties between ACU universities to expand opportunities for joint research. He added that greater mobility of students, researchers and academics should be encouraged across Commonwealth institutions. He added that universities should work together to strengthen innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems that enable students and researchers to transform their ideas into practical solutions.
