Unable to endure ongoing domestic abuse and destructive behavior caused by their son's drug addiction, a couple in Tahirpur Upazila handed their 25-year-old son over to the police, resulting in a one-year imprisonment sentence issued by a mobile court.

The incident occurred at around 8:30 pm on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, in Middle Tahirpur village under Tahirpur Sadar Union. The convicted individual has been identified as Abdul Alim, son of Sirajul Islam of the same village.

According to family members and local residents, Abdul Alim had long been addicted to Yaba tablets, causing severe disruption within the household. Despite repeated attempts by his family to rehabilitate him, he routinely consumed drugs inside the house, vandalized domestic furniture, and physically assaulted family members. On Tuesday evening, Alim began causing a public disturbance at home after consuming Yaba, prompting his parents to notify local police, who arrived on site and detained him.

Following his detention, Tahirpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Ripa Moni Devi conducted a mobile court summary trial at the scene in the presence of the suspect's father and local villagers. After inspecting the premises, reviewing testimony, and receiving a direct confession of drug consumption from the accused, the executive magistrate sentenced Abdul Alim to one year of simple imprisonment under applicable drug enforcement laws.

Speaking regarding the decision, the convict's father, Sirajul Islam, stated that Alim's violent behavior had made life unbearable for both the family and neighbors, compelling them to seek law enforcement intervention as a last resort.

Tahirpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ripa Moni Devi confirmed the summary judgment, noting that aside from severe domestic abuse, allegations were also raised regarding the individual's involvement in local narcotics distribution. She reiterated that the legal penalty was handed down following formal admission of guilt under statutory mobile court proceedings.
