
Dr. Ishita acquitted in drug case

The court has acquitted Doctor Ishrat Rafiq Ishita in a case under the Narcotics Control Act on Monday.
Judge Arunabh Chakraborty of Dhaka's Speedy Trial Tribunal-2 announced the verdict on Monday. The accused's lawyer Sheikh Kaniz Fatema informed this.
The judge announced the verdict in presence of Doctor Ishita.
Ishita expressed satisfaction with the verdict. She said, "No matter how many false cases are filed, the truth will be revealed one day. This has been proven."
According to case sources, on August 1, 2021, Dr. Ishita was arrested by RAB from Mirpur. The next day, on August 2, three cases were filed against her at the Shah Ali Police Station in the capital under the Digital Security Act, Narcotics and Fraud Act on various charges including false identity, drug dealing, certificate forgery. Ishita was released from prison on October 1, 2022, 14 months after her arrest.
Besides, on September 20, 2023, under the Digital Security Act, Dr. Ishrat was sentenced to one year in prison by the Cyber Tribunal. An appeal was filed in the High Court on November 22, 2023 against that verdict. After hearing the appeal, a single bench of High Court Justice Md. Ashraful Kamal acquitted her on May 29 last year and announced the verdict. Another case against Dr. Ishita is still pending.
