Dr Yunus being harassed in the name of trial: SCBA president

Nobel laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus is being harassed in the name of trial, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon has said.
Talking to journalists on Wednesday (June 12), the SCBA president also expressed his doubt about former inspector general of police (IGP) and former director general (DG) of RAB Benazir Ahmed's trial process. "Police and RAB should hold separate inquiries on Benazir Ahmed," he suggested.
Meanwhile, Law Minister Anisul Huq has said what Dr Yunus has been saying about his trial process is totally "false" and "humiliating for the country's people."
He made the remarks after holding a meeting with a two-member delegation of the European Union at the conference room of the Ministry of Law in the secretariat on Wednesday (June 12).
Anisul Huq said the EU delegation was apprised that Dr Muhammad Yunus had violated the country's labour law. His trial process is taking place the way the trial of country's citizens happens.
He said that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against Dr Yunus. "Regarding that case, I told the EU delegation that case is under the process at court. I also told them (EU delegation) that the Law Minister doesn't talk anything on the cases which are sub-judice. I also told them another thing that there was a case against him of evading taxes. He paid tax going to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court after losing a case. Other cases pending against him are also related to evading of taxes."
