Education for nearly 200 young students at West Dema Gulishakhali Government Primary School under Badarkhali Union in Barguna Sadar Upazila is facing severe disruption due to a hazardous school building and an acute shortage of teachers.

The educational institution suffers from a critical lack of adequate classrooms and infrastructure. Portions of plaster frequently detach from the ceilings and walls of the aging facility, causing injuries to teachers and students while damaging classroom furniture including chairs, tables, and benches.

The school currently accommodates approximately 200 students with only three teaching staff members. During the monsoon season, water leaks through the damaged roof into classrooms, making regular lessons difficult to conduct. Both educators and students operate under constant fear of structural collapse or falling debris.

Assistant teachers noted that the structural degradation creates persistent anxiety during school hours, with rainfall frequently soaking instructional materials, books, and notebooks. Students have repeatedly voiced concerns regarding their personal safety while attending classes inside the premises.

The acting head teacher stated that teaching activities are currently being conducted under precarious conditions by attempting to block rainwater entering through the damaged ceiling. School authorities, students, and local residents have urged the relevant administrative departments to immediately construct a modern, safe academic building to ensure a suitable learning environment.
