Dengue: 3 more die, 705 hospitalised in 24hrs

Three more deaths were reported from dengue in the past 24 hours till Monday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 497 this year.

Among the recent fatalities, one took place in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), while one occurred in Dhaka division and another in Khulna division (outside the city corporations).

During the period, 705 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of them, 154 were admitted to hospitals under the Dhaka North City Corporation while 90 under the DSCC.

As of now, 2,779 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals across the country.

Since 1 January, a total of 93,056 dengue cases have been reported.

Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 1,705 people, making it the deadliest year on record.

According to the DGHS, there were 3,21,179 cases and 3,18,749 recoveries in 2023.
