DC plans to deploy Ansar to secure vacant houses of expatriates in Sylhet

Osmaninagar (Sylhet) Correspondent

Newly appointed Sylhet Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Abdullah Al Mamun has announced an upcoming initiative to deploy Ansar members to ensure the security of vacant homes belonging to expatriates across the district. He stated that a preliminary decision has been finalized, and necessary measures will be implemented following discussions with relevant authorities.

The Deputy Commissioner shared this information while talking to journalists on Wednesday on the sidelines of various government office inspections and programs in Osmaninagar upazila.

He noted that the current government places high priority on the welfare and security of expatriates. Addressing the long-standing concerns regarding the safety of empty houses and properties left behind by expatriates living abroad, the district administration has taken the initiative to arrange home-guarding services through Ansar personnel.

The Deputy Commissioner further explained that senior officials of the Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) will be consulted before formal implementation, and activities will commence once a final decision is reached.

A significant portion of the population in the greater Sylhet region resides abroad, leaving many residential properties vacant for extended periods.

Addressing regional infrastructure progress, the Deputy Commissioner commented on the ongoing development of the Sylhet-Dhaka highway, noting that the road expansion project is moving forward with land acquisition completed in most areas. Acquisition work is currently underway in the Niz Karua area of Dayamir union and the Gajiya area of Sadipur union in Osmaninagar. Affected landowners who submit formal applications will receive compensation from the Deputy Commissioner's office in accordance with the law.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, the Deputy Commissioner began his itinerary by inspecting the Upazila Nirbahi Officer's office. He subsequently attended distribution events for assistive devices organized by the Upazila Social Services Office for persons with disabilities, as well as student aid distributions hosted by the upazila administration and primary education office.

His visit also included interactive meetings with officials across various government departments, alongside inspections of the Upazila Land Office, Tajpur Union Land Office, and SOS Children's Village in Osmaninagar. Throughout the tour, he underscored the importance of elevating public service standards, accelerating ongoing development projects, and increasing administrative dynamism.

Meanwhile, Osmaninagar Upazila Ansar and VDP Officer Shamsun Nahar confirmed that the Deputy Commissioner's directives have already been communicated to higher authorities, and subsequent steps will be taken in alignment with their official decisions.
