Amid protests following the tragic death of two students in a road crash four days ago, the authorities of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) have closed the university sine die.
In response, students have locked the main entrance of the administrative building, which houses the offices of the Vice Chancellor, Pro Vice Chancellor, and Registrar.
According to media reports, three officials were inside the building when the students locked the gate. The students took control of the building around 4:30 pm and positioned themselves inside the gate.
Pro-VC Md Jamal Uddin Ahmed informed journalists, "The administrative building has been locked. We are inside. The students will need to vacate the halls. Since the campus has been closed, there is no scope to engage in discussions with the students."
During a press briefing at 4:45 pm, the students declared their refusal to vacate the residential halls as instructed by CUET authorities. The authorities had directed male students to vacate the halls by 5:00 pm today and female students by 9:00 am tomorrow.
