USA Bureau
The chairperson of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), which works in the US Congress for the rights and dignity of Asian Pacific Americans, including Bangladeshis, is New York Congresswoman Grace Meng. Grace Meng, who won the election held on December 4 unanimously, will serve in the 119th Congress starting in January.
Expressing her feelings after the victory, Congresswoman Grace Meng, who has been repeatedly elected on the Democratic Party ticket from the Bangladeshi-populated areas of New York (Congress District-6, Jamaica, Flushing, East Elmhurst), said that CAPAC was established to prioritize the problems and opportunities of Asian Americans, Hawaiians, and people of the Pacific region in the American administration.
She will gradually strengthen the relationship of this community with the central government. Intention. Grace Meng, elected as the first Asian Congresswoman from New York, mentioned that my seventh term in the new Congress will begin in January. In the last six terms, or an era, I have been doing my best for the welfare of Asian Americans. My colleagues have given me the opportunity to serve as the First Vice President of this caucus for the last three consecutive terms. For this, I am grateful to them.
Now I feel honored to be elected as the chairperson. Grace Meng mentioned that during Donald Trump's first term, I did my best to prevent anti-Asian attacks across America. I was also trying to protect Asians, who were the most affected by the Corona pandemic. Until this year, I have been fortunate to work on various issues of Asians while being close to the Biden-Oklam administration for the last four years. I have been able to take various steps to prevent violence and hatred, reduce medical service fees, turn around small businesses, and improve the quality of life of Asian-Americans.
Based on my experience, I will continue to do my best to strengthen this caucus and further empower Asians in the mainstream. It is worth noting that Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-Calif.) served as the chairperson of this caucus for 14 consecutive years. The new chairperson, Grace Meng, thanked Judy Chu.
