Two youths die from alcohol poisoning, another under treatment

Two youths died after falling ill after drinking alcohol in Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj. Another youth named Anil Baroi is undergoing treatment for falling ill in the incident. The two youths died while undergoing treatment last Saturday and Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Monotosh Haldar (38), son of Mahendra Haldar of Dighalia village in the upazila, and Krishnakanta Baroi (34), son of Gedu Baroi of the same village.
According to family members, the three youths went to the nearby village of Khagbari to work as decorators on the occasion of Durga Puja. The family said that they drank alcohol there on the night of Shasthi Puja on Friday, October 16. A few hours later, they fell ill and were admitted to the Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex. Later, when their physical condition deteriorated, they were sent to Dhaka for better treatment.
Monotosh Halder's brother Uttam Halder said that while working as a puja decorator, his brother drank something like water. After that, when he fell ill, he was first taken to the Upazila Health Complex. As his condition deteriorated, he was later admitted to Popular Hospital in Dhaka. He died there on Saturday while undergoing treatment.
On the other hand, Krishnakant Baroi's brother Bishnu Baroi said that his brother and three others had gone to Khagbari village to work as decorators. Some of them drank alcohol there. Later, when Krishnakant fell ill, he was first admitted to the Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex and later to Dhaka's Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital. He died there on Sunday while undergoing treatment. He also said that no complaint was filed with the police station by their family in this incident.
In this regard, Kotalipara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Riyad Mahmud said, "No complaint has been received in this incident so far. If a complaint is received, an investigation will be conducted and necessary legal action will be taken."
