Computers provided to labs of 5 female students' halls at DU

The Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology provided computers to expand and modernize the computer labs of 5 female students' halls of Dhaka University at a function at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium on Thursday.

Advisor to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology Md. Nahid Islam handed over these computers to the hall provosts as the chief guest. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan presided over the function.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Edn) Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Treasurer Prof Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Secretary of the Information and Communication Technology Division Sheesh Haider Chowdhury and Policy Advisor (Coordination and Reform) Faiz Ahmed Tayyab spoke as special guests at the event. Coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Umama Fatema delivered the opening speech. Convener of the Provost Standing Committee Dr. Abdullah-al-Mamun conducted the event.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan emphasized on developing the computer labs of various residential halls as one of the main means of information and communication and said that the halls should be prepared not only for accommodation but also for studies.

The university administration has already taken various training programs to make students skilled in information and technology. He thanked the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology for providing computers in the labs of 5 female students' halls of Dhaka University.

Advisor to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology Md. Nahid Islam said, Dhaka University students have led various anti-dictatorship movements including the Great Liberation War, Language Movement, the 1990s mass uprising and the 24th mass uprising. However, this sacrifice of the students has not been properly evaluated.

We want to improve the quality of life of the students and ensure a fair environment for education. The Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Dhaka University are working jointly for this purpose. He mentioned that various training programs will be organized to enhance the skills of the students.
