College student killed in septic tank explosion in Tongi

A college student was killed in a septic tank explosion in a four-storey building in Tongi. The incident took place at the residence of journalist Matin Saheb in Auch Para Mollabari area under Tongi West police station on Sunday at 10 pm.

The deceased is Habibullah (19), son of Ruhul Amin of Baherchar village of Sakhipur police station of Shariatpur district. He was studying in an engineering college.

A child named Jannati Habiba (13) was injured in the incident. Locals said that the deceased Habibullah was staying in the room on the ground floor of the four-storey building at the time of the incident. Thirteen-year-old Jannati Habiba was staying in the next room. The septic tank exploded with a loud noise at around 10 pm.

Meanwhile, the floor of a room on the ground floor of the house and the walls on both sides of the room collapsed. Habibullah was seriously injured. Meanwhile, the locals rescued him and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

After being taken to the hospital, the injured Habibullah died at night. Locals complained that the owner of the house made a septic tank inside the room but did not install any pipe to release the gas. In this regard, the owner of the house said that the building engineer Kamruzzaman was negligent regarding the safety of the septic tank. Officer-in-charge of Tongi West Police Station Iskandar Habib said that we received information that one person was injured in an accident at night.

Later, I came to know that the injured person died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. A wrongful death case has been filed in this incident.
