Coast Guard seizes 13.1 million meters of banned current nets in Shariatpur

The Coast Guard has seized 13.1 million meters of banned current nets in a raid on a net godown in Shariatpur on Sunday.
Lieutenant Commander Md. Siam-ul-Haq, Media Officer of the Coast Guard Headquarters, confirmed this matter.
Based on secret information, a special operation was conducted by the BCG Station Chandpur under the Dhaka Zone of the Bangladesh Coast Guard from 11 am to 4 pm in Daser Jungle Bazar under Gosairhat Upazila of Shariatpur district. During the operation, an estimated 1,31,00,000 (one crore thirty-one lakh) meters of banned current nets were seized by searching the net godowns and shops in Daser Jungle Bazar.
Later, the seized current nets were burnt and destroyed in the presence of the Assistant Commissioner of Land and Executive Magistrate and Fisheries Officer.
