Coast Guard seizes 'Jatka Hilsa ' worth Tk 7.3 million near Padma Bridge

Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized 1,200- kg of illegal jatka hilsa (juvenile hilsa) during a raid near the Padma Bridge toll plaza area in Munshiganj on early Saturday.
According to the Coast Guard, a truck traveling from Shariatpur to Dhaka searched, revealing 1,200 kg of illegally caught jatka hilsa, estimated to have a market value of Tk 7.32 million. As the actual owner of the confiscated fish could not be identified, no arrests were made during the operation.
Coast Guard Media Officer Md. Mahfuz said “We conducted the raid throughout the night. Around 6 a.m., we stopped and searched a truck near the Padma Bridge toll plaza, where we discovered the jatka hilsa.
Later, in the presence of Louhajong Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Rezaul Islam, the confiscated fish were distributed among local madrassas, orphanages, and impoverished individuals.”
