Coast Guard seized Myanmar-bound urea fertilizer in Sitakunda, two detained

Bangladesh Coast Guard seized two trucks loaded with 600 sacks of urea fertilizer intended for smuggling to Myanmar and detained two suspected smugglers during a drive in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram district.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon disclosed the information on Thursday afternoon.
Acting on a tip-off, a special operational team from Coast Guard Station Bhatiary carried out an expedition near the Banshbaria Ghat area under Sitakunda Police Station at around 12:30 AM on Thursday, September 24, 2026. During the drive, Coast Guard personnel intercepted the suspects while they were transferring the fertilizer from two trucks onto a cargo boat bound for Myanmar.
Security forces seized 600 sacks containing 30,000 kilograms of urea fertilizer valued at approximately Tk 21 lakh, along with the two trucks utilized in the smuggling attempt. The team also detained two smugglers at the scene.
Legal procedures regarding the seized fertilizer, vehicles, and the detained individuals have been taken.
