Coast Guard launches operations to curb piracy in Cox’s Bazar, Maheshkhali, Kutubdia

The Bangladesh Coast Guard has launched a series of drives in the maritime areas of Cox’s Bazar, Maheshkhali, and Kutubdia to suppress pirates and robbers, preventing attacks on commercial vessels and fishing trawlers.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Suzan, Media Officer of the Coast Guard informed this in a press release on Monday.
According to the official, public panic had recently mounted over potential pirate attacks targeting commercial ships and fishing boats in the region. In response, the Coast Guard intensified round-the-clock patrolling, intelligence gathering, and technology-based surveillance across its jurisdiction.
To ensure maritime safety, the force is deploying high-speed patrol boats and modern ships equipped with radar, advanced communication systems, and GPS technology to monitor suspicious movements at sea.
As part of the ongoing drive, units from Coast Guard Base Chattogram, Coast Guard Ship Sabuj Bangla, and stations at Cox’s Bazar, Maheshkhali, Matarbari, and Kutubdia conducted a day-long sweep today to secure fishing crews and commercial vessels.
Lieutenant Commander Arafat Hossain, Executive Officer of BCG Base Cox’s Bazar told the journalists that such drives will continue to keep the country's maritime and coastal regions free from piracy and armed robbery.
