Coast Guard foils smuggling bid, seized cement, fertilizer, detained 6 smugglers bound for Myanmar

Chattogram Bureau

The Bangladesh Coast Guard has thwarted an illegal smuggling attempt, seizing a large quantity of cement and chemical fertilizer destined for Myanmar, while detaining six smugglers.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, Coast Guard Media Officer, informed this in a press release on Thursday morning .

According to the Coast Guard, acting on a tip-off, Coast Guard Outpost Patenga conducted a special operation near the 15th Ghat area under Patenga Police Station in Chattogram, spanning from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM on Wednesday.

During the raid, two suspicious cargo boats were searched, leading to the seizure of 1,000 sacks of cement and 280 sacks of chemical fertilizer—valued at approximately Tk 15 lakh—which were being illegally smuggled to Myanmar. Two cargo boats used in the smuggling operation were also confiscated, and six smugglers were apprehended on the spot.

Legal processes have been taken to hand over the seized goods, boats, and detained individuals to the relevant authorities for further action.

The Coast Guard remains vigilant and will continue conducting such operations in the future to curb cross-border smuggling, the press release added.
