A bilateral meeting between Bangladesh Minister for Science and Technology Faqir Mahbub Anam, MP, and U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright took place on August 26 in Washington, D.C.

The discussions focused on peaceful nuclear cooperation, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), energy security, mutual understanding, and expanding collaborative opportunities in the energy sector between Bangladesh and the United States.

During the meeting, Science and Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam stated that the peaceful use of modern and safe nuclear technology can play a crucial role in meeting Bangladesh's growing energy demands, ensuring energy security, and accelerating sustainable development. He noted that Bangladesh is seriously considering the potential of advanced nuclear technologies, particularly Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).

The Minister affirmed that Bangladesh remains committed to the safe, secure, secure, and responsible application of nuclear technology. To safeguard the country's energy security and drive economic growth, he emphasized the necessity of strengthening mutual cooperation, knowledge sharing, and technological exchange with technologically advanced nations like the United States.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright expressed an optimistic outlook regarding cooperation with Bangladesh in the fields of energy and nuclear technology. He highlighted the United States' priorities in developing and expanding modern nuclear technology and SMRs, noting that the U.S. Department of Energy places significant emphasis on the rapid advancement and deployment of next-generation nuclear solutions.

Discussions between the two ministers placed special emphasis on peaceful nuclear cooperation, SMR technology, mutual support in the energy sector, technology and knowledge exchange, and enhancing mutual understanding. Both sides expressed a shared interest in deepening the existing friendly ties and cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States while jointly working on matters of mutual interest concerning nuclear science, technology, and energy.
