
Coast Guard -Fisheries Depat joint drive : 18 lakh pieces of shrimp fry worth Tk 90 lakh seized, released in Padma River

In a joint operation conducted by the Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer's Office and the Bangladesh Coast Guard in Louhajang, Munshiganj, 18 lakh (1.8 million) pieces of Golda (giant freshwater prawn) shrimp fry have been seized on Sunday from 5:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the area adjacent to the Padma Bridge.
Md. Rezaul Islam, the Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer, stated that the operation was carried out jointly by his office and the Padma Bridge Coast Guard in the Mawa area near the Padma Bridge. During the operation, a Khulna Metro truck (Reg No. T-11-1857) en route from Chattogram to Satkhira was searched, and 18 lakh pieces of shrimp fry packed in drums were seized. The estimated market value of the seized fry is Tk 90 lakh.
As the actual owner of the fry could not be identified, no arrests were made. Later, the seized fry were released into the Padma River.
