Chilmari (Kurigram) Correspondent

Subarna Khatun is a 6th grade student of a school built on the banks of the Brahmaputra River. Born in a poor family, this student has also shown wonders in the field of sports besides studies. She has won first place at the national level in the long jump and 400 meter relay race in the 53rd Winter National Sports Competition.

Subarna's classmates and teachers are excited about this extraordinary honor. On her such achievement, Subarna's classmates distributed sweets and held a joy rally in the area last Thursday.

Subarna's home is in the Fakirerhat Bazar area of Raniganj Union in Chilmari Upazila of Kurigram. She is a 6th grade student of Fakirerhat High School.

Subarna said, I like sports very much. When there is a sports competition in our school, I participate. I also participate in winter sports competitions. I have played at the upazila, district and divisional levels and reached the national level. There too, I came first in the long jump and 400-meter relay. It feels very good, if I get government assistance, I want to play not only at the national level but also internationally and earn the reputation of the poverty-stricken district of Kurigram and Bangladesh.

Subarna's father Bachcha Mia said, we are people who have broken the river. We don't understand studies. But apart from studies, Chhawata is also good at sports. The school teachers have taken her to the national level and she has come first. I am very happy, how nice it feels.

Fakirerhat High School Principal Ruhul Amin said, our school has a good reputation. It is the best institution in Chilmari Upazila and for the last eight years, I have been considered the best principal of the Upazila. The students of our school participate in various sports, cultural programs and debate competitions in both government and private institutions. They have achieved success there.

I am most happy this time, two of our students, Subarna and Sammit, have participated in the national level. Subarna became the country's best in long jump and 400 meters. Sammit also participated there. This trend will continue, they are the inspiration of our students, not only at the national level, but we can prepare them as international level athletes.
