Business partner arrested in Dhaka for Tk 1.42 cr embezzlement

Police have arrested Md. Merajul Islam (45) from his Mohammadpur residence following allegations of fraud, embezzlement, and factory theft involving his partnership firm, Bangladesh Power Technology Limited on Thursday.
The arrest comes after his business partner, Syed Riazul Karim, filed a case with the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court following failed informal mediation.
The complaint alleges that Islam misappropriated Tk 1,41,91,915 using fake vouchers for salaries and parts, and secretly relocated heavy factory equipment for his own use, causing severe financial disruption to the business.
Action was taken following a court order directing the Mohammadpur Police Station to proceed with legal measures. Police confirmed that legal procedures are currently underway to send the accused to prison.
