Tongibari (Munshiganj) Correspondent
A building wall has become an obstacle to construction work on a road under construction in Tongibari, Munshiganj.
The wall of Moktar Sheikh's house has become an obstacle to the construction of the Amtali bypass road in Amtali village of Sonarang Tongibari union of the upazila. This has halted the construction of 435 meters of the road at a cost of 1.9 crore taka.
On Friday afternoon, it was seen on-site that the construction work of the Amtali bypass road is underway. However, the road cannot be fully constructed due to the wall of a building on the side of the road. The local residents have stopped the construction work until the building wall is demolished and the road space is cleared as per the schedule. They demand that the road should be constructed as per the road work schedule. The road should not be narrowed for anyone's personal interest.
Local residents Based Khan and Ayub Ali Dalal said, "After a long time, road construction work is going on near our house. We want our road to be beautiful. The work should be done as per the schedule."
Local resident, Sonarang Tongibari Union Chhatra Dal General Secretary Taijul Islam said, "Part of the wall that is visible on the side of the road has fallen into the road space. Since the wall on the road space has not been demolished, the road work cannot be done properly. Therefore, we, the locals, have stopped the contractor from breaking the wall and clearing the road space."
Building owner Moktar Sheikh on the side of the road said, "I am willing to give up my space for road construction in the public interest. But who will pay the cost of demolishing my building?"
Aktaruzzaman, owner of the contractor company Nixon Trading, said, "Work will be done according to the schedule given by the office."
Tongibari UNO Md. Mostafizur Rahman said, if anyone goes beyond the law and creates obstacles in road works, then legal action will definitely be taken against him.
