BNP is indulged in unhealthy politics of opposing India using tactics of past Pakistani strategies without getting a suitable political issue in the country, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said on Saturday.

While addressing a function at the party’s Tejgaon office in Dhaka, Quader pointing his finger at the BNP leaders said, “They executed similar tactics during the era of Bangabandhu, and they continue to do so during the term of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”

About the acceptance of the 7 January National election, he said Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League formed the government with 41 percent votes which is rare in many developed countries.

“Thereafter, BNP claims that India facilitated our rise to power. India stood beside us in defeating the evil attempt of BNP to thwart the 7 January national election,” Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said.

Quader also strongly criticised BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, now staying in Singapore for treatment purposes, as he spoke against the country there.

“It is a blatant violation of political norms in speaking over the country’s internal issues going abroad in the name of treatment,” said the Awami League leader.

He called upon BNP to comply with the prime minister’s suggestion to refrain from arranging iftar parties during Ramadan and distribute the saved money of the party to the distressed people across the country.

About the current prices of the daily essentials, he said the people are feeling a respite as the prices of most of the commodities started coming down due to the pragmatic step of the government.

The prices of essential items will soon reach a tolerable level for the common people, he expressed his optimism.
