BNP’s National Executive Committee Member Abu Naser Muhammad Rahmatullah has stated that necessary measures must be taken within a week to prevent the erosion in Shayestabad.
Visiting various erosion-affected areas (Kamarpara, Churaman, Athazar, Hobinagar, and Char Aicha) in Shayestabad Union of Barishal Sadar Upazila on Saturday.
He witnessed the devastation firsthand. During this time, he also visited schools, madrasas, mosques, and hospitals in the erosion-affected spots and expressed solidarity with multiple human chains organized by the local people, who were seen lamenting their losses.
Rahmatullah said that when there is no elected government by the people, immediate solutions to problems are not possible. For a long time, the unelected government has turned the country into a bottomless basket through looting and corruption, which is why the erosion-affected areas have not seen any touch of development. As a result, the homesteads of helpless people are now on the verge of being wiped out.
He further stated that if immediate action is not taken to prevent erosion in Shayestabad area, hundreds of houses, local schools, and madrasas will disappear and urged the Chief Adviser , the Secretary of Water Resources, the Barishal Divisional Commissioner, and the District Commissioner to pay attention to the matter.
He also called upon the responsible administrative officers to visit the erosion-affected areas and find at least a temporary solution within the next week.
Rahmatullah said that there is no alternative to a government elected by the people’s vote for a permanent solution to these problems. He pledged that if BNP comes to power through a neutral election, the river erosion in Shayestabad will be permanently resolved. He also committed that under the leadership of BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, if they are able to form the government in the coming days, any problem in Barishal Sadar Upazila will be addressed.
