BNP destroys caretaker government system: Quader

Staff Correspondent

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has cleared his party’s firm stance against the caretaker government, saying that the BNP has destroyed the system.

“We did not repeal the caretaker system, rather the judiciary did it. It is a dead issue, no need to revive it as there is no existence of the system in any country in the world,” he said.

Quader made the remarks while BNP and some of its like-minded political parties have been continuing movement to meet their demands including holding the 12th parliamentary election under the management of a nonparty caretaker government.

While addressing a training session of his party’s polling agents at Dhaka district AL office in Tejgaon area on Tuesday, he also called upon the party’s leaders and activists to refrain from disrupting the electoral atmosphere.

“We will not bear the burden of any election code violators. We will not favor any of our candidates if the Election Commission takes action against them on the charge of violating the electoral law,” he said.

Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said that the upcoming 12th parliamentary election is taking place amid a global economic crisis, adding to the existing challenges faced worldwide.

Amid the situation, the BNP has not only boycotted the election but also hatched a conspiracy to foil it, said the Awami League leader.

BNP has chosen the path of unleashing acts of terrorism in a bid to foil the national election. Their indulgence in terrorist acts has already taken an acute turn, he said.

BNP men set fire to at least 300 buses so far and killed police and Ansar men in the name of the movement, Quader said.
