BNP’s Mostafa Kamal Pasha wins Chattogram-3 (Sandwip) seat by wide margin

In the Chattogram-3 (Sandwip) parliamentary constituency, BNP candidate and former MP Mostafa Kamal Pasha, contesting with the “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol, has been declared elected by a wide margin according to unofficial results.
According to the announced results, he secured 73,037 votes. His nearest rival, Jamaat candidate Muhammad Alauddin Sikdar, who contested with the “Scales” symbol, received 39,662 votes. With nearly double the votes of his closest competitor, Mostafa Kamal Pasha confirmed a decisive victory.
Meanwhile, the “Hand Fan” symbol candidate received 5,145 votes and the “Football” symbol candidate got 308 votes. A total of 2,798 votes were declared invalid, bringing the total number of votes cast to 120,950.
Local BNP leaders and activists believe that this landslide victory once again demonstrates the party’s strong position in Sandwip. However, some political analysts and local BNP leaders opined that around 34,000 minority votes were cast in favor of the “Sheaf of Paddy,” contributing significantly to the large margin of victory.
A total of 4,784 postal ballots were cast in the constituency. Of these, the “Scales” symbol received 2,505 votes, while the “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol secured 684 votes.
The unofficial results were announced at 11:30 pm on Thursday (February 12) by the Assistant Returning Officer and Sandwip UNO Mongchingnu Marma.
The constituency has 83 polling centers with a total of 255,700 registered voters.
In addition, in the referendum held in the same constituency, 68,532 votes were cast in favor of “Yes,” while 37,155 votes were cast in favor of “No.”
