With a view to protecting the environment, mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change, and developing a green and sustainable campus, Bangladesh Army University of Engineering & Technology (BAUET) inaugurated its “Tree Plantation Program–2026” on Wednesday. at the University's newly- acquired campus. The theme of this year's program was “Let's Beautify the Country through Tree Plantation, Bangladesh First.”

The inaugural ceremony was formally launched by the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of BAUET, Brigadier General S M Lutfor Rahman, who attended the event as the Chief Guest. Md. Bisarat Ali, Assistant General Manager of Pubali Bank PLC, Natore Branch, was present as the Special Guest.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest said, “Trees are our true friends. They provide us with oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide, thereby maintaining ecological balance. Trees are indispensable for human survival. Through planned afforestation, BAUET's new campus will be transformed into a modern, eco-friendly, and sustainable learning environment.”

Among others present at the ceremony were Colonel Md. Shawkat Hossain, psc (Retd.), Treasurer; Colonel Hla Han Maung (Retd.), Controller of Examinations; Professor Dr. Md. Sazzad Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Science & Humanities and Faculty of Law; Professor Dr. Mohammad Nurul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; Professor Mohammad Golam Sarwar Bhuyan, Dean, Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE); Major Md. Monjinul Mubin (Retd.), Acting Registrar; departmental heads, the Proctor, the Student Welfare Advisor, faculty members, officers, staff, and student representatives from all departments.

As part of the program, more than one hundred fruit-bearing, timber, and medicinal trees were planted across the University's new campus. The program concluded with a special prayer (Doa and Munajat) led by Hafiz Md. Al Amin, Imam of the BAUET Central Mosque.
