A rally was held to mark the one-year anniversary of the naked attack and conspiracy case against the traditional Barguna Press Club by corrupt and arbitrary Awami MP Golam Sarwar Tuku and his terrorist forces.

Barguna Press Club held a rally of condemnation and hatred at the Barguna Press Club auditorium, calling it a black day on Wednesday evening.

Barguna Press Club President Adv. Sohel Hafiz presided over the rally, and leaders of various political parties were present in addition to members and associates of the Barguna Press Club working in various important media outlets of the country.

Former president of Barguna Press Club, veteran journalist Chittaranjan Shil, Jahirul Hasan Badsha, Zakir Hossain Miraj, Monir Hossain Kamal, vice-president Md. Hafizur Rahman, general secretary Abu Jafar Saleh, joint general secretary A. Malek Mithu, finance secretary Jahangir Kabir Mridha, member Shahidul Islam Swapno, associate members Kashem Hawlader, Hawlader Sohag, Asad Sabuj and others spoke at the rally of condemnation and hatred.

The speakers said that a group under the patronage of former MP Golam Sarwar Tuku has been carrying out various misdeeds including extortion in Barguna through bad journalism. For taking a stand against these misdeeds, the Barguna Press Club and the members of Barguna Press Club have been continuously harassing them.

On February 19 last year, when most of the members of the Barguna Press Club were exchanging views with the members of the Kolkata Press Club on the occasion of an educational tour, a pre-planned group of 40 to 50 terrorists attacked the Barguna Press Club with the direct support of corrupt and arbitrary Awami MP Golam Sarwar Tuku. At that time, they made an attempt to take over the Press Club. They insulted several members and associate members.

In this incident, as per the decision of the Barguna Press Club meeting, the then General Secretary Zafar Hossain Howlader became the plaintiff and filed a complaint in court accusing 17 people under the Speedy Trial Act. Taking cognizance of the complaint, the Barguna Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court ordered the officer-in-charge of the Barguna Police Station to file an FIR and PBI investigation within 24 hours.

Thirteen days after this incident, when one of the attackers, Masud Talukder, died of a heart attack, the attackers filed a murder case against the journalists of the Barguna Press Club as a counter-case by hiding the death certificate. Twelve journalists from Barguna Press Club were accused in this case. Ten journalists from Barguna Press Club were imprisoned for more than two months in this case.

The speakers said that the attack was led by Mushfiq Arif, Harun or Rashid Rinku and Masud Talukdar, members who were repeatedly expelled from Barguna Press Club. Strong condemnation and hatred were expressed against the so-called press workers in the rally on the occasion of the day.

The speakers said that the attack was planned by Mushfiq Arif, a member of the Barguna Press Club, along with two members expelled from the club for violating organizational discipline, with the help of corrupt Awami League MP Golam Sarwar Tuku, with the intention of tarnishing the reputation and dignity of the Barguna Press Club. As part of the plan, the attack was carried out live on social media and separately by spreading propaganda against the Barguna Press Club.
